COMMERCIALIZATION of an organic experience
Woodstock was a defining moment of the youth generation of the 1960's countercultural movement. The Woodstock Music & Art Fair occurred from Aug 15-17 in 1969 with the purpose of rebelling against America's involvement in Vietnam. Amongst the violence that was occurring overseas, the youth counterculture wanted to gather for "three days of peace and music" to show their solidarity in being against the war. Many of those in attendance were referred to as hippies, a subculture that was prominent during the period of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Hippies were categorized by their fashion choices, music and drug use that starkly contrasted the ideals of their parent's generation. Music festivals today do not have an ideal that bring them together for a purpose. The millennial generation attempts to mimic the movement through the same mediums, however the process fails as music festivals today, cheapen and commercialize the experience of a music festival that was meant to change the world.
